T42p 15" - just reseated my LCD, fixed the hold-latch

Wow, those were two pretty stressful hours.

My LCD was seated a little too far up, so the center of the display bevel where the thinklight sits cuts out about 3 pixels from the top. It's been annoying me for a few months, so tonight I thought I'd do something about it.

The LCD bevel is a pain to get off the first time, especially since the bottom edge is taped to the LCD frame. That took the most time. Everything else was pretty much a cakewalk, I just had to be careful not to scratch or apply too much pressure to the LCD screen as I was handling it.

While I was inside the machine, I wanted to see if I could do something about my display latch. It works but didn't "hold" its position if I pulled the latch without lifting the display. A folded-over strip of scotch-tape between the latch and the front inner edge of the display cover solved that problem.

Sad, now I have nearly nothing left to complain about (but I do wish I took pictures of the process) :)

Good to hear that you fixed the LCD placement, I wonder why the fitment mechanism of these screens can't be just that much more precise, but then again I guess exact screen dimensions vary so much anyway that a standard mounting system is unfeasible. But how exactly is the LCD held in its position then? Is it just this tape or rather the pressure of the bevel on the LCD frame due to fitment?

Unfortuntately, there's no real "adjustment" allowed in the design, I basically had to rely on pushing against imperfect physical tolerances in the parts. The 7 screws on the sides of the LCD cover (covered by those little plastic caps) physically hold the LCD to the cover. Other than that, there are 4 screws holding the actual LCD to side rails, and the unit also rests against a couple of thin cables on each side (wireless antenna cables, I believe), and of course the tape along the bottom of the bevel.

I just took out all the screws and made sure I put them back in with any physical play resolved in one direction. In the end, it gave me just enough space to reclaim the tip of my cursor when scrubbing along the top of the screen. Ideally, I would still have liked about 1/3 mm more, but it no longer distracts me.
