where is GPU?

#1 Post by webearth » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:41 am

I got a problem with the GPU that might be loose. Somebody told me to press somewhere on keyboard above GPU to try to make it contact motherboard. Can anyone picture me exactly where I should press on Keyboard?

Mere pressing is not going to do much...

First of all what ThinkPad are we discussing here?

Secondly, once you remove the keyboard (assuming we're talking about a T4x unit with an ATi GPU) you'll see the chip marked "ATi". Put (carefully) a couple of "post-it" sheets on it and re-install the keyboard.

This, of course, is just a very temporary fix...

Good luck.

- see the image by RS_003 (in the post of Sat Jun 04, 2005) in the thread T40 fan - some facts (warning, large pics) showing a 15" T42p with an ATI FireGL T2 GPU (white, most towards the front, almost completely covered by fan). On T42's with ATI Radeon7500 the GPU sits further inside; see e.g. this image (the GPU is the big chip in the centre labeled "ATI").

PS: Did you see the stickies GUIDE: Reflow GPU fix - 56K WARNING!!! and T42 shuts down when I move it at the top of this T4x-forum?
