T41 sxga lcd -> T43 base?

#1 Post by Thomcat » Fri Nov 28, 2008 11:32 pm

The T41 I gave to my sister most likely has the GPU issue so common to these machines. One of the options is to roll the dice and send it in for a GPU reflow repair.

Another option I'm thinking about is buying a T43 base unit with a broken LCD. Is it possible to install the T41's 14.1" 1400x1050 to a T43 (1024x768) or T43p (1400x1050) base?

It's possible to swap those bases, but unless RAM and CPU are included they are not compatible between the (2) bases. You are much better off with this deal. Rich will take care of you ...

Thank you for the speedy reply. Gonna sleep on the T42 base.

As to the T41 LCD -> T43 base transfer...will I need a new cable? Or is it a direct swap?

If you swap the entire LCD assembly (cable, LCD, inverter) it is a direct swap.

Wait a minute. If you have T43 with an Intel-graphics motherboard (18xx model) it won't work with an SXGA panel

Good point Rich. What is the machine type/model of the T43 base?

I don't have a specific one in mind yet. I'm keeping an eye out for a T43 base with an ATI graphics card. I assume that would work with a T41 14" 1400x1050 lcd.

Yes it would. Remember what I said about getting the CPU with it, or else you will also be shopping for one. RAM is cheap so that should not be a concern.

Didn't I read here somewhere that the Radeon 7500 chip also has trouble with 1400X1050? Don't you need the Radeon 9000 or better chip for SXGA+?

I briefly tried a SGXA+ panel on my T40 with the 7500 chip, and it didn't work well. I can display the BIOS screen, but could not boot Windows.

I also saw richk's ad for the T43 base, and when I saw that it has the 7500 chip I decided to pass. Is that a mistake?
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E
