Rumor: Sepperate graphics chip for dock

#1 Post by i-SnipeZ » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:57 pm

I was reading somewhere on the net about how IBM docks support PCI express graphics chips. Is this true? if so, it would solve my delima w/ my engineering software and gaming urges.

True, there are some docking stations which support a PCI card (PCI Express on the newer models). If this is in regards to the T43 in your .sig, then a Dock II 2877 should work:

It can handle a half-height PCI card.

Here's a list of cards that might work: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_ ... ideo_Cards

According to Thinkwiki its a "full-height / half-size" card not "half-height" and low profile PCI cards should work. However "Due to the slow PCI bus, gaming is generally not improved much by external cards."

Here are some PCI low profile cards on newegg. I can't verify which work, but the thinkwiki list is most likely not up-to-date.

rkawakami,
Can you find an example with pci-express? That would be very interesting.

just fyi, that one only works with the T/R6x and newer machines. Not with the T4x. So that nobody gets confused (since we are in the T4x subforum).
