Display problem (big images)
Display problem (big images)
I have a T42. it' about 2 weeks old.
Yesterday I find that there is a problem with the screen and the backlight.
On the right side of the screen I can see the Cold Cathode Lamp, because there is a gap between the LCD and the screen cover.
You can see it on the linked pictures.
Do you thik I have to take it to the IBM service?
Righ side: the problem

I recently removed my LCD cover and took out the screen so I was paying attention to this kind of issue.. I have no gap on either of my thinkpads, and cannot see the lamp at all regardless of angle. At least on the 15" model, the LCD has a metal 1/4" wide metal frame, no light escapes from that either.
I have also not seen this phenomenon while in an environment where over 30% of computers are T42 laptops.
From your pictures alone, the gap seems quite large. 3mm is downright bulging. Try removing and reseating the LCD cover (you only have to remove the 3-4 screws along the bottom front of the LCD cover)...but I'm thinking you'll get a better unit if you exchange with IBM.

jo5h, if you do notice the stuck pixel (and mostly if is white!) I would exchange it... A dead pixel and even more are ok, but bright stuck pixels gets to one´s nerves to those who noticed it the first day they get the laptop
The other problems that you mentioned are issues that here you will find a lot of aid in how to correct it.

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

pdudas, some people here had opened the laptop to reajust the LCD. Someone didn´t have it parallel. (These are common issues mostly with those of 14" since 15" are perfectly in place)
Your pics of right and left side are no taken from same angle so it is hard to see if lcd may be more toward the left. If you see that that is the problem, it is fairly easy to reajust (in spite IBM may not like you do that by yourself
) However, if you see it well centered, you may have to be more creative but I can see how I could block that light from inside... Something like stock pixels will bother me more than that indeed.
