T30 and 2200BG

#1 Post by Merlyn_3D » Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:38 pm

For those of you that have put a 2200BG into a T30 successfully, I have a couple of questions. First, which set of drivers (what version) did you use? The IBM ones or the Intel ones? (The Intel drivers look to be a version newer) Also, do the intel drivers work with access connections?

The intel drivers do work with access connections. Just do the no1802 hack. install the card, then run the intel cd provided with the card.

Which performs better with the card? Access connections or the intel client in the new version of the drivers?

They are both pretty much the same, but I find the windows access client easier to use.

The windows client is easier to use, but Access Connections does a *lot* more (multiple different connections) and once set up, changes automatically. ... JD Hurst

After a couple days of using it, the 2200BG seems to get good reception, however it seems to be acting weird. The connection never disconnects, but things slow down and the connection will fluctuate. I'm starting to think that maybe there isn't a good way to put wireless G on a T30 internally. Anyone else have issues?

My 2200 B/G works greats. If you want to disconnect it, then try switching the radio off. Its an option on the Intel program.

I dont' want it to disconnect, but I mean instead of disconnecting, the speed of the connection is unstable. When using VNC through it it's almost as if the connection gets bottlenecked sometimes to the point where the cursor goes really really slow, then it speeds up and retraces eveyrthing really fast and catches up. Are you using the Intel program with Access Connections? I'm using Access connections.

I use the windows connection program. Now I dont see how the card could have caused a lag on your drive which is what seems to be happening.I dont have any problems on my T30, do you have any memory upgrades?

It's got 512MB of RAM. My problem is that the wireless connection slows to a crawl, then speeds up again a minute later. Seems to consistently do that. I put in the old card (IBM High Rate wireless with Modem II) that came with the laptop and everything is fine, albiet reception doesn't seem to be as good. I believe this older chipset is the intel 2100 chipset.

Another funny thing...my laptop's only 6-7 feet from the router (WRT54G) and the connection fluctuates from 54Mbps all the way to 24Mbps. I get better reception (see more APs around here) with the 2200BG than the original IBM card, but the IBM card seems much more stable. I've tried using the Intel program, windows program, and Access connections, both with IBM's latest drivers for the card and Intel's latest drivers. I can't figure this out.

My T30 really lags (mouse is erratic) when there is an access point or other connectable device but it isn't connected. Seems to really use resources trying to connect. Once it establishes a good connection, all is good.
