Trouble with wireless

#1 Post by josner » Fri Jan 14, 2005 8:43 pm

I'm having some difficulties with my wireless network (which has WPA). The primary hassle is, if my or my wife's laptop is not plugged in and it goes into suspend or hibernate mode, when you wake it back up it is usually impossible to get back onto the network without plugging in and rebooting. (This does not happen every time.) -- If it is plugged in when you wake it up, everything is fine. What's going on here? Is there anything I can do about this?

Another weirdness is, it seems to forget the WPA key every so often, and I have to bring up the list of available networks, click on my network and click connect, and re-enter the key. Why is this?

Thanks,
Jeremy

First thing you should tell us is whether you are using Access Connections or Windows to configure the connection. Perhaps knowing which wireless card, too (IBM or Intel). Personally, I (and other users) have found Access Connections to be a bit flaky. If that is what you have installed then uninstall it (can always reinstall later if you wish), along with the wireless drivers & reboot. You do have all the latest drivers? On reboot, Windows will "find new hardware." Then use the Windows setup for wireless and see if you still have the problem. If this is just a home wireless setup, you may not need Access Connections. Though it gives a cooler and more informative interface, I feel it also makes for a trickier setup.
