replacing LCD hinge on T40

#1 Post by jamnkats » Wed Dec 10, 2008 6:27 pm

I recently replaced the LCD assembly on the T40 in my sigline (yeah me!) but one of the hinges - the one that screws down to the m/b (looking at the screen (open) it is the hinge on the left - is broken on the new LCD. Is there an easy way to replace this hinge? I started to take the bad LCD apart to try and get at the hinge, but I'm feverish and decided to put it off and check with you guys first. How difficult (if possible) is this swap?
T30 2366-61U dead mobo
T30 2366-81U still works but not being currently used. I think I'll rectify that situation.
T40 2373-19U dead
(2) T42 2373-JXU with Flexview LCDs. One with either GPU or southbridge issue.
T43 2687-D4U with possible software problem. Awaiting R&Rs.

I think you have to take the LCD off, and then dismantle it.
I've had the left hinge break on two T42s --- in both cases, the flat visible piece split diagonally. On the first, I replaced the whole LCD. On the second, I superglued it back together. That was three weeks ago and it seems solid (no guarantees!!).
Work: T42p (XP, UXGA IPS); T60p (XP, UXGA IPS); T60/61 FPad (Win 7, UXGA IPS).
Play: X1 (first gen, Win 7); T450s (Win 7).

On that screen that I was selling and that you'd asked about, the exact issue happened! I ended up taking the screen assembly partially apart and doing the same to my old one and then swapping out the hinge. It really wasn't all that difficult since you are only doing one side so you don't have to have everything apart. However, it was a pain in the you know where!
