Acronis Demo - Clone T40

#1 Post by Larain60 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 12:14 am

Grrrr

Hi all I followed the detailed instructions found on this site - created boot disc, made hidden part visible, swapped drives (1 USB), then when I started the demo of Acronis on the boot disc it said action cannot be completed on the trial version! :)

I didnt see any limits on the demo when I downloaded it other than 15 days.

So I tried it from within windows - and it says need to reboot, then the USB drive is not visible to Acronis, only when I use the startup disc.

Did I miss something? I dont mind buying the software, but Id like to know if it works for what I need.

I purchased the full version of the software - worked like a charm.

Here is what I did for my T40

1- Purchased a 60 Gig 7200 hdd IDE (non-sata) on ebay for $44.

2- Purchased Acronis True Image 2009. I had installed the demo, then registered it using this coupon code on their site which brought it down to $39.99. ATIVNUET20 is code.

3- Purchased USB enclosure for IDE 2.5" here for like $9 shipped www.hdeshop.com.

4- After you register the demo software create boot CD. If you dont it appears they will not let you clone drive... at least I was not able to (tried to clone from boot disc before registration).

After I registered, it said to recreate boot disc, which I did. Clone would not work from windows, it always "restarted" windows in Acronis console mode then wouldnt recognize USB drive.

5- I changed the BIOS setting re. the Hidden IBM partition, but there was none on drive.

6- Powered down, then swapped drives (original into USB, then New drive into Laptop).

7- Booted from CD boot, Acronis started and I set it for clone.

8- 28 minutes later, 35 gigs of info was cloned.

9- rebooted machine, and here I type to you all.

The machine is MUCH faster with the 7200rpm drive. That and I added 1gig ram.

Tomorrow Im adding a 2000mhz chip (up from 1.5), new G network card, long fan.

Thanks guys. Any feedback would be appreciated.
