Questions about LCD in 14.1' T41p (2373-221)

#1 Post by Tim82 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 3:59 pm

Hello!

I use a T41p 2373-221 daily as my main computer, I have only one complaint: the LCD could be better. It isn't very bright.

I suppose it's equipped with the older, ID-Tech-manufactured LCD. Would be great if I could switch to a Flexview panel, but as far as I know, there are no compatible IPS panel that could fit (Flexview panels were manufactured only for 15" and bigger sized models). Am I wrong? Is there any?

I'm positive after a little Thinkwiki reading (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Flexview) I can go for a Samsung LCD (FRUs 13N7058 or 13N7059). As I see, it could be an improvement too, being brighter than my current LCD. If so, should I change inverter etc. or will my current do the job flawlessly?

Thanks in advance, as usual - I'm always willing to learn more about Thinkpads. :)
Thinkpad X201 (3680-WNC)@AFFS & Ultrabase,
Thinkpad X220 (4291-8F6)@IPS - current setup.

There are no IPS FlexView 14" LCDs, so as you've said yourself, that route can't be taken in your case.

Samsung is likely the worst LCD that one could have on a ThinkPad...

You can go to Lenovo's warranty page, put in your machine's info, and then click on "parts originally shipped with this system" link, it will allow you to pull the FRU of your current LCD and compare it against HMM to see what you actually have in there.

Hope this helps.

Oh. So I don't have any option, the Samsung LCD isn't an improvement? 'cause I don't think my LCD is malfunctioning - simply isn't bright enough to comforting my sight.

Thank you for the very quick and kind help. :)

Note: I'm right, IBM shipped my T41p with ID-Tech LCD (FRU: 11P8346)...
