WPA TKIP support on atheros A\B\G

#1 Post by ryan1212 » Wed Jan 07, 2009 2:55 am

I just upgraded my cisco card to an atheros (FRU39t0081), and I having issues connecting to a secure wireless network using WPA and TKIP.

Some background info:
1)Other XP Machines are able to connect
2)All the settings are correct in the windows wireless set up (certificate, etc)
3)I am using the built in windows wireless tool, not access connections
4)I have tried access connections
5)I am using the latest official IBM Drivers, but I also tried the Ekahau drivers. Same result.
6)I can connect to unsecured networks.

What is happening:
When I connect to the secure network, It is listing it as a WPA2 network and asking for a network key. The settings for the connection ARE set as wpa\tkip\protected EAP, I have unchecked the box to use windows login as username\password, etc. It should be prompting for a username\password when I try to connect to the secure network. Everything is identical to other machines, and I have had others double check that my settings are correct.

It just hangs at acquiring network address, and does not connect. Access connections said the authentication is what was failing when I tried using that.

Lastly, with my past cisco card I was able to use Cisco's software to get detailed network info, etc. Does atheros have a similar program to Cisco's Aironet Client Utility?

Is anyone out their able to connect to a WPA TKIP PEAP secure network with the Atheros ABG Card?

Thanks in advance, sorry for the long message!

A utility to find wifi networks is Netstumbler from www.netstumbler.com

If you let Windows manage your connections, make sure the ZeroConfig service has been started (Start/Run/services.msc)

Try the MS WPA2 update. Is the WindowsXP updated to SP3?

I am running XP SP3. I am trying to connect to a WPA network using TKIP and PEAP, and the network is being detected as a WPA2 network and asking me for a passcode instead of prompting for a user name and password.

Can you set the IP address to valid fixed IP address (outside of the DHCP range) and get connected? Have you tried rebooting the router?
