ThinkPad t43 BOOT Issues

I am new to the IS feild and am fairly well versed in Dell and HP equipment. Recently i was given a T$# to work on and am having several issues i was hoping one of you could assist me or at least point me in the right direction. The issue start that the system would hang at the loading windows screen so i decided to flatten it and just reload XP. I placed the disc in the cd drive and the machine would hang at the POST screen. Tried to boot with the CD drive pulled out and could at least get back to the original problem of hanging at the loading windows screen. I have seen several forums stating it could be a hard drive or mother board issue and wanted to get advice from people who were actually knowledgeable as to which one it sounds like and if it would even be worth attempting to replace. thanks in advance for you time and support. ~S

If you suspect your hard drive is the cause of the problem (and it sounds like it is) then find someone who has internet access and get them to access Lonovo's support and download site.
On there look for IETY47WW and download it. (Warning - it is a big file!)
Then use it to create a bootable CD version of PC Doctor.

Put the CD in your T43 and reboot. You may then run diagnostics on your hard drive.

I have a bootable CD version of PC doctor and I'd be happy to copy it and send it to you if you were in the UK or western Europe. (You don't say where you are based.) Because of postage costs and timescales it isn't feasible to post to anywhere outside that area.
