T40 - Intel 2100 wireless

#1 Post by hhmcsv » Thu Jan 08, 2009 2:34 pm

I have come upon a strange problem with the wireless performance of my T40. At certain places and times, it have had problems of detecting available wireless networks, even when signal strength seems more than plenty for connection. I have been using windows XP for the connection, but also the Lenovo Access connections to handle the network connection. With no significant difference in performance.
Sometimes, the connection was made to a network with much lower signal strength than other available networks - strange!
Yesterday, it happened again, and as I have dual-boot with Linux Ubuntu 8.10, I tried that for connection - and that had no problems of picking up all available networks and connecting to them.
So I tried to look for an updated driver on the Intel website - and that gave a newer driver than available through the Lenovo System Update. But that made no difference.
So I downloaded and installed the Intel(R) Proset software, uninstalled the Lenovo Access Connections and that made a difference!
Now - from one day of experience - it seems that the problem is solved, the Intel SW seems to detect all available networks :D

Anybody with similar experiences or solutions?

You can set the power level for transmitter of WiFi device in AC - maybe you have set it to low or medium level. This (of course) lead to lower performance when detecting or working with WiFi networks.

No, that is not the case, those values have (always) been set to the default values which I believe to be "high" in Device Manager -> Intel PRO.........-> Advanced.
