Has anyone experienced CD-RW media compatibility problems with the T42? If so, what brands?
I've got the GCC-4242N CDRW/DVD drive in a 2378-FVU, and new Memorex CD-Rs work just fine, but older Kingston Hypermedia CD-RW discs that work in my desktop burner are useless for erasing or writing (either RecordNow or third-party apps like Alcohol120), and error messages are cryptically unhelpful, although it does read discs with existing data.
Disabling DLA doesn't help, unfortunately. I have yet to try different CD-RW media (I'm highly skeptical of this working), but have any users found there to be any software settings that interfered with CD-RW operation? Many thanks!
CD-RW media incompatibility w/ T42
Have you tried a new (any new) unformatted CDRW? CDRW "standards" are not standard and some of the software packages are not compatible formats. Adaptec's ISO9600 is the most commonly encountered. CDRWs formatted and written on another system/software may not read on your thinkpad.

Thanks for the note.
If by "new" you mean manufactured in the last two years, then no. If you mean "newly unwrapped and unformatted," then yes. And strangely, it doesn't have problems reading discs formatted on other machines, it simply can't format, write, or re-write any of the CDRWs that I've got.
I'm still half-convinced this is a software problem with IBM's DLA software, but I will certainly pick up a brand new CDRW from the store on the hopes that it's somehow the disc manufacturer...
