GPU or other problems?

Hi,
I got a T42 that now doesn't function. After reading some posts, I think it may be the mobo or the GPU, but not sure. The symptoms are as follows: The machine will but, then after 20-60 seconds, the screen goes black. Same thing on an external monitor, so that leads me to believe it something on the mobo. The hard drive is fine from what I can tell, can view all the data through and IDE -USB connected to another machine. Maybe the GPU is not connecting to the board. Thanks for any help....

Yes, your machine is failing due to the infamous GPU syndrome. Re-balling/re-flowing the solder in that area or motherboard replacement are the only permanent solutions.

sorry to hear about your failure

there is a stucky in this section on how to reball your GPU with a heatgun and an IR thermometer.
you would be well enough to try it after all it's not like you have much to loose.
