#1 Post by jamerslong » Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:03 pm

so I just got my recovery Discs, I stuck em in the drive and ran the recovery. once it was done I booted into windows to be welcomed it forced me to activate before I could logonm the lan driveres werent installed so guess what :( phone style here I come.

so i got it activated (yay)

it took along time to get it all to to do the post boot install. I woke up in the morning to windows repeatedly doing the scandisc and when I tried to boot into windows I got Mr BSOD.

and it also failed to ask for Disc 5 at the end of the recovery install

Disc 5 is an additional CD, not really part of the Recovery/Restore set.
It's a security update for Access Support.
See the README.TXT file on that CD.

When you run recovery CD's you should generally FDISK and remove all partitions, then FDISK /mbr to fix the Master Boot Record. Then do the recovery. Done without doing FDISK will result in an incomplete recovery and a request for activation (as I know from experience and calls to IBM). Done the second way results in a correct recovery and no request for activation. .... JDH
