Gap between LCD and Casing - T42
Hi,
Does your laptop have this problem? A gap between the lcd cover and the casing after you close the lcd cover. This laptop belongs to my girlfriend. My laptop also has a gap but it is smaller than this.

it seems it could affect the 14" models more, when you look at:

The right side of the laptop seems to close completely without leaving any gap.
I am starting to wonder whether the gap is a defect or all 14" laptops come with this gap.

I don't think this is a "defect" at all in the 14", just within a range of designed manufacturing tolerance (but until we hear from IBM, that's just my opinion).
The reason the 15" doesn't have a gap is because the LCD half of the clamshell is so much thicker, IBM designed a much deeper bevel all the way around the edge - so even if the tolerances stayed the same, you wouldn't be able to see a gap. Also, since it is so much bigger/heavier (most of the additional weight comes from the display), it's ever so slightly more structurally rigid and resistant to any inherent flex or bowing that make take form, though I think this is 1) minor at most, and 2) also not a "defect" in the true sense.
