new battery in t22
new battery in t22
hi, i've replaced the battery in t22 with a new one from ebay (from sib-usa). the p/n & shape are identical. however even after charging for 12hrs the charging light is still blinking on the tp, and the battery information says error or not available. if i take the AC out the tp works, although the tray icon still says info unavailable and charge 0%. mob meter consistently says charge 0.0W. any ideas anybody? many thanks.

the newest BIOS on the T2x series only accepts ORIGINAL IBM batteries. Any 3rd party is rejected and does not load. You need to upgrade your BIOS with an older version.
It is a common problem. I guess IBM does not want to get into lawsuits about defective batteries, which are not theirs.
NOKIA and SIEMENS had the same problem with fake cell phone batteries. So there is an internal check now.

I had this exact problem with my T23 battery. On the T23, I downgraded the "bios embedded controller" from version 1.06 to 1.05, and my battery worked fine. IBM apparently in version 1.06 checks to see if the battery is IBM made or not. I question the legality of IBM's action.
In any case, I did not have to downgrade the bios because the problem was with the separate embedded controller.
It appears that the T22 does not separate the bios from the embedded controller. I suggest you downgrade the bios to version 16ET31WW and see if that solves the problem. Here is a link to the IBM bios page for the T22:

Hope that helps.

thanks glgermain !
precisely solved the problem. it's certainly nasty for ibm to do this in their BIOS 'upgrade'. in fact i now also realised it was using the non-ibm battery in the new bios 16.32 that caused the tp to report the cpu was only 700mhz instead of the correct 900mhz. that had me really confused for a couple of days.
is there anything in the 16.32 that is missing in 16.31 that actually improves the system rather than degrades it?
