Hi there,
My T43p has developed a rather peculiar problem. It is only running on batteries. When I plug it into mains power, it stops working after ca. 10 seconds.
When I start it up on mains power, it also only runs until the first windows screen shows only to shut down straight after. So it only really works when I charge the batteries and let it run for an hour or so, until the batteries stop.
This problem occurred straight after I exchanged the cooling fan (noisy, because the bearings were broken) with a new, original IBM fan, with exactly the same serial numbers. Is there anything in the BOIS sequence I am meant to do, or is this a problem that might be affecting the whole T4X series?
Do you have any advice for me on what I can do? I would really appreciate your help with this, as I use this laptop constantly.
Best regards, and have a nice evening,
Tilman

Re: T43p runs on battery but shuts down on mains power
Friends,
Would you know a solution to this? I really would like to have my Thinkpad back. Do you think this could somehow be related to the GBU issue?
Or any other advice for me? The thinkpad runs fine on batteries, but I really need it 5 or 6 hrs a day, and then I really need the power supply.
Thanks,
Tilman

Re: T43p runs on battery but shuts down on mains power
If the problem occurred right after the fan replacement, then I'd suspect that first. Do you still have the old fan? Put it back temporarily as a test. If the problem disappears get a new fan. This also assumes that you used the proper thermal paste and technique to reinstall the fan.

Re: T43p runs on battery but shuts down on mains power
It sounds like it is overheating when it runs on A/C. (The CPU runs slower and cooler on battery) What did you use for thermal grease when you changed the fan. Could you have used too much?
