If the trackpoint and the touchpad both fail to work, That would sound like a software issue or somthing on your MB has gone south.

the touchpad is a seperate hookup from the trackpoint. so it's unlikely the cable has come loose.

Attempt to boot into safemode and see if it works. If not attach an external usb mouse and uninstall the drivers and reboot.
when windows boots up it should reinstall the drivers. from that point it should work

Not really, all the R & T series laptops I've worked on had one connector for the trackpad & touchpad. Fingerprint scanner is possibly a second connector.

Things to check:
Check in the BIOS to make sure they are not disabled.
Check in Thinkpad Configuration to make sure they are not disabled.
Boot in safe mode - do they work?
Pop off the keyboard and check the connection.
Restore the laptop to a point before they stopped working.

Chris

I know my T41 has a sperate hookup between the pointing devices. touchpad is seperate while the touchpoint goes through the keyboard... like it allways has.

Fingerprint sensor is combined into the same cable

Yeah, that's correct. I've forgotten to connect the trackpad a few times while taking apart my T42P. The trackpoint still works though so long as the keyboard is connected.

Ok so if I disable the touchpad in the bios the track point works.

However now I'm getting a problem where the trackpoint goes out for like 5-10 seconds and starts working again. Weird?

have you tried following my directions?

It sounds like there could even be an IRQ conflict between the 2 devices there for disabling both.

re enable the touchpad and see what happens, I am curious.
If the broblem comes back go into the device manager
(start->right click my computer-> properties-> Hardware tab-> device manager)
and look at the pointing Devices to see what it says.
