Connecting Thinkpad T42 to a Television

Does anybody know how to connect a thinkpad (I have a T42) to a T.V.? I recently purchased a S-video/3.5mm to RCA cord, hoping that all I needed to do was plug it in. I tried going under Display Advanced properties, but it won't let me turn the "TV" setting on. Help!
