How can I get installed the proper Italian keyboard?, (probably they come from factory with US keyb and OS) didn’t it? I would like to swith to my native language..
I don’t need the OS since I legit own a desktop license and I would know if I could succeed into getting totally working installing XPSP1 from scratch.
UPS shipping I think is good also in my city Milan, Italy

It's pretty easy to do. You just remove several screws from the bottom of your Thinkpad to release the keyboard. Then you just install an Italian keyboard in its place. The hardware maintenance manual has instructions:

Thinkpad X200s w/ Ultrabase
C2D SL9600 / 8GB / 160GB X25-M G2 / BD MULTI / 12.1" WXGA / INTEL 4500MHD / INTEL 5150 / BT / AT&T WWAN / W7

IBM US doesn't have Italian keyboard, you have to call IBM Italy. The US keyboard price is about $90.

Edit: Actually it's $91.75. Here is the FRU list for keyboards: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46503

As for the Italian OS, you have to contact Bill, but I don't think it's possible.

I have just ordered a 2373-CWU (It's on your list) from Bill. I live in France, and even paying customs AND shipping the unit works out ALOT cheaper than buying it here in Euros - I'm waiting for Bill to give me an ETA...eventually I'll have to get hold of a French keyboard otherwise I'm going to get very confused switching back and forth between the machines here and the TP ! Oh well, another $90...

For your information, I've just been onto the IBM site in French and ordered a French keyboard for my (not yet arrived!) T42 and it's going to cost 47€ including shipping. (It's the same KB for T40/41/42)

The code for the Italian keyboard is 08K5054 - hope this is useful to you.

Yes (Have you been in touch with Bill ??) it was about that price.

I don't plan on wiping out the HPA initially - we'll see ahow it goes - with 80Gb of HD I've got quite a lot of space free !

I don't think I'll need special drivers for either bluetooth or the WLAN - I've a wireless network both at home and at work (22 at home, 54 at work) and I feel sure the IBMa/b/g card will handle that ok.

and what about the IBMtool dir content? Wlan A/b/g/ driver doesn't come with XPSP1a! How do you plan to make them work?
My personal plan is to remove Bios protection and making a set of backup cd containing HPA partition usinf true Image server from www.acronis.com
later I would wipe the entire HD and make a clean isntall of XP into partition C:\ and the create a D:\data and an special hidden backup partition with True image that let you enter only by pressing F11 on Bios bootup...
similar to IBM Access, does it?
