Persistent blacklight issue

#1 Post by meeotch » Fri Feb 06, 2009 11:00 am

I've had to replace the backlight in my t42p twice - most recently about six months ago. The screen is starting to go pink again already - which by this point, I recognize as a sign of the light burning out again. There's also a buzzing noise when the screen is set to less than full brightness. At full brightness, it's silent.

I've read the threads, but I've not found anything specific to a *recurring* backlight burn-out issue. My feeling is that maybe there's something wrong with the inverter that's causing the light not to be driven properly, and thus burning it out. (Might explain the buzzing as well.)

I'd rather not pay to have the light replaced again without some idea that it's not just going to go again in six months. Any thoughts?

I would suggest an inverter problem.

Have you contacted the company who replaced the backlight to get their opinion on this? Can you say who did do it?

Secondly if you do get the backlight replaced, I would also suggest replacing the inverter as well - plenty of good second hand ones can be found especially if you search the Market Place or put in a wanted ad there.

BTW which country are you from?

The company in question only offers a 30-day warranty. I emailed them about the most recent incipient failure, but they didn't reply. For those of you in the U.S., the company is Moniserv. (Also known as LCDPart.com.) I will say that in the past, their customer service has been reasonable. But three bulbs in 18 months just isn't right.

There's another company that does backlights, called Arndt, that was referenced on another thread in this forum. I've sent them email to get an opinion. They offer a one year warranty. (But they use bulbs purchased from LCDPart, above.)

Arndt is run by Jamiphar and comes highly recommended; as well as doing backlights he also has an excellent graphics reflowing service.

Have a look here
