1802 fun...
1802 fun...
I've just changed the motherboard in my T42 (after a failed GPU reflow), and got the 2010 and 1802 errors. I've got rid of the 2010 error by downgrading the BIOS, but despite trying with one of the no-1802 discs I can't get rid of the error, and therefore can't use my laptop wirelessly...
When I used the no-1802 disc, I entered no-1802 (under all responding drive letters) but it just returned me to the prompt, is it meant to do more?
Anyone got any ideas?

You got to boot from either a DOS or W98 bootfloppy and then run the program with the wifi card removed.

If you up/downgrade your BIOS, or replace the CMOS battery, you need to reapply the patch.

Tried both 1802 crackers and neither work. Upon reinstalling the card the BIOS throws up the error.
The really stupid bit is that the card is a IBM badged Philips card.

Re: 1802 fun...
Wait a minute. If you are getting a 2010 error, your new motherboard is from a T43. The 1802 patch/hack doesn't work on that model.
Re: 1802 fun...
Aha!
It was sold as a T42 board, but considering the different chips on board that would make a lot of sense.
So is there any hope of me getting my wireless card working?

Re: 1802 fun...
The 2010 error comes from a non-approved hard-disk, an error common only to T43/p and R52.
There should be an option in the BIOS to ignore this error automatically. The error will still show, but booting will continue after a few seconds. You can also hit the Esc button when error 2010 shows.
If you take the keyboard off, you should be able to see the motherboard P/N or FRU. What is it?
Did you load a T42 BIOS on that mobo? If so, load the T43 latest BIOS on it.

Re: 1802 fun...
The PCCard/ExpressCard slot cage is different for a T43. Does that fit anymore?
Memory also changed to DDR2. Does the memory fit anymore?
If you did some how upgraded to T43, you need a T43 wireless card. This is one drawback in upgrading from T42 to T43. T43 platform is much more limiting. I am using a 11n card in my T42 now which would be very difficult in a T43.

Re: 1802 fun...
You really should reinstall the OS. The T43 should use a different hardware extraction layer (HAL) from what is used on T42. A T42 image doesn't work quite right. There are 2 entirely different install sets, depending on whether you have Intel or ATi graphics. Look in the BIOS and post back with the model and serial number it shows. Also, I hope you didn't reuse your T42 fan.
Re: 1802 fun...
The wireless situation with the T43 is the same as T6x and newer:
T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Re: 1802 fun...
I realised all that stuff...
512mb of ram was located from housemates computer graveyard (and 2GB of new stuff has been ordered), and the expansion slot came on the motherboard. A new windows install was planned anyway, so I didn't even try to boot into the old one.
Thanks for the link regarding wireless in a T43. Looks like I've built myself a T43 in a box with a T42 sticker.
If anyone UK based wants some T42 bits I have a dead mobo, a 1.8GHz processor, 2 512mb sticks of DDR ram, a fan assembly, and an expansion slot cage thing. PM me.

Re: 1802 fun...
If the T43 MB boots up with a type, model and serial numbers already, you are home free and System Update will work. Otherwise you need to input a valid type model number via System Maintenance utility in order for System Update to work.

Put on a 1802 fixed BIOS and all works well now, other than the loud beeps at startup for the 2010 error (anyone know how to kill that?)
Thanks guys!

Replace your HD with one of the few approved IBM-issued HDs.bangadrum wrote:the loud beeps at startup for the 2010 error (anyone know how to kill that?)
Turn the sound down or off to no longer hear the beep.
See this Stickie to get details on which drives work.

Re: 1802 fun...
Haven't the funds to change hd (this laptop has eaten enough of my money). I thought I had muted the sound, but I'll give it another go.
Cheers

Re: 1802 fun...
If your hard drive is on this list, try upgrading the firmware. That made my 2010 error go away.
