Used T23 with new WinXP Home has no STANDBY?

#1 Post by fb3 » Sat Jan 22, 2005 4:40 am

I picked up a T23 from eBay for under 500 and did a fresh install of WinXP Home, but now I notice that it doesn't have the Standby capability--did I screw up the Win install or is there some other likely explanation?

Also, is there any way to get the IBM Thinkpad programs (setup, and help, and so on) to put on this machine that I've put XP on?

Thanks

Did you copy the IBM Tools and DRIVER folder before you formatted? If not, you need to get the drivers and utilities at www.tpdrivers.com and look up T23.

The hibernate and standby are part of the Power Management utilities.

I went to the site and dl'd the power management file, incl the battery maximiser and the ACPI power management (plus BIOS updates etc) and now I still don't have any standby.

in the control panel/performance/power options there is no option to set "System Standby" and it doesn't appear elsewhere.

Also, I don't believe hibernate works at all on this machine with XP as on the page for the hibernation dl it says "Hibernation does not work with NTFS/HPFS file systems."

THat's not a problem cause I don't use hibernation that much. StandBy, however, is a different story. I use it all the time and would like to get it back.

Anyone got any ideas how I might accomplish that?

If its not in the power management features then I dont know what the problem is. I have a T23 using NTFS with Windows XP Pro and it works fine after I installed the power management utilities. Ive never used XP Home so I dont know how different it is.
