Re: Superior Reball GPU Fix
I got my t41 back, with a new motherboard, and aside from the wait (which is as much my fault as Dales, since I never told him to just replace the motherboard, so he kept trying to fix the old one. I think that if you send your computer to Dale, you will get the laptop back, and provided you do not do anything dumb (heatgun w/o the thermometer) he should be able to fix it fairly quickly. I do think the he is very busy, he said as much when I was talking to him. there are 2 problems which I expect to be fixed very quickly - he sent his Cd drive with my laptop, and he kept my wireless card, so I will keep everyone posted on how it turns out.

Is this the one you sent him back in March?craigmontHunter wrote:I think that if you send your computer to Dale, you will get the laptop back, and provided you do not do anything dumb (heatgun w/o the thermometer) he should be able to fix it fairly quickly.

Re: Superior Reball GPU Fix
yeah, but as I said, there was a problem with the usb, and while his communication was not great, I still got it back, with a new motherboard. There was a problem at the end where he did not pay eneough shipping, but it finally got here. I think that he is trying to run a buisness of a needed service, and if you send him a computer with only one problem, he should be able to fix it. it was under a week before he figured out that the usb was not working, at which point the communication broke down, but I did figure out that he was having trouble getting replacement boards. I am intrested to know if he is still offering to replace boards, since he said that was what was burning him. he needs to wait for the board to come in, and then fix it. if his source does not have any boards, he cannot fix them which makes it difficult to get the laptop back. I also agree with the statement that if it is not working, what do you have to loose? I also seriously doubt that it is a scamming operation, since I think that everyone (correct me if I am wrong) eventually gets their laptop back from them, it is just that the 1-5 day turnaround time is a bit optimistic.

If you send money and/or your equipment to Dale Mediema / Superior Reball and Rework, you do so at your own risk!! I had a HORRIBLE experience!
I sent him 4 IBM Laptops (T30s & A30) and $240 via PayPal about a year ago. Each was clearly marked with the specific problem that it had. They were supposed to be returned within a week. I never heard from Dale for two weeks so I contacted him, and when I did he gave me the good news that all my machines had been repaired and that they would be returned to me. Wow, I thought, this is great!
I live in Chicago so I was expecting my laptops back in a day or two. Another week goes by and I still didn't have them so I contacted Dale and finally got them back after ANOTHER week. When I did finally get them back, I was really disappointed to find that only two of the four had been repaired! One still had no video at all and the one that does not recognize hard drive still had the same problem. What's more, they were all marked as "checked OK".
I called Dale and he said to return the two bad ones. So I did. And waited. And waited. Several months of not being able to get hold of him go by. To make a long story short, they hadn't even read the notes I carefully posted to each machine, and ultimately the two machines were unrepairable. But again it was like pulling teeth trying to get my equipment back! I finally got my laptops back, and Dale Mediema at Superior Reball and Rework promised to refund the $120 he owed me for not repairing these two machines.
Here is where a bad story turned into a nightmare. After promising to refund the $120 he owed me, Dale essentially just IGNORED me from then on. Months and months of unreturned emails and unanswered telephone calls. On the rare occasions when I could get him on the phone, he would ACT all nice and promise to sent me the refund through PayPal "on Friday". Then Friday would come and go and no refund. This went on for about 8-9 MONTHS until I finally threatened to file a claim with the Illinois State's Attorney's office if I didn't get paid. THEN he sent the refund.
In the meantime, BOTH the machines that he DID fix have REVERTED to having intermittent video problems again. So it was a total loss. : (
Do you think I am going to call Dale Mediema / Superior Reball and Rework to look at these again? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD I TRUST Dale Mediema / Superior Reball and Rework WITH MY MONEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT AGAIN. ONCE HE HAS YOUR MONEY YOU MAY AS WELL KISS IT GOODBYE BECAUSE IF THERE IS ANY PROBLEM WITH THE REPAIRS, YOU ARE HOSED. GOOD LUCK GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK.

Re: Superior Reball GPU Fix
I am starting to get a little worried myself. At the recommendation of someone on these forums, I contacted GPU Medics, and they sent me the info required to send in my T40p motherboard for GPU and southbridge reballing. I carefully dismantled my PC and send him just the motherboard carefully marked with the problems as well.
I mailed the board out on Dec 4th. Delivery Confirmation on the 7th. Have sent 3 non-threatening emails, politely asking for a status update since then (quoted turn around time was 5-7 business days, per our initial contact.) I have not received a single reply.
Going to try calling the phone number provided this Monday, to see if I can get anything at all from this guy, but so far I am not impressed and would not recommend this service to anyone (unless you like being laptop-less and ignored
)
Current mood: pretty annoyed and missing my T40.
