watching DVD and screen settings

#1 Post by zver17 » Sat Jan 22, 2005 2:59 pm

Hi, I am trying to watch DVD using T22 / S3graphicsSavage / Win2000 / mediamaticsDVDplayer. The DVD player wount work in 1280res with 32-bit colour (says it wount work with these settings and shuts down), but works with 16-bit colour. It will also work with 32-bit colour if lowering resolution to 1028res.Are these things due to software or the graphics card? many thanks!

Well, a couple of things. The T22 may or may not work at 1280 res/32bit because of the Savage graphics. Does it work with this color depth under normal Windows at this resolution? Secondly, DVDExpress most likely won't work at these settings. It was originally designed for 640x480x256 colors! The original 600E had a mode switch built into the DVD express program which would drop the res/depth to this on startup and resume 1024x768/16bit on exit. Believe it or not, it was quite watchable! Are you using the IBM version of DVD Express? And finally, remember W2k was never designed as a multimedia OS - that's what ME was supposed to be

powerdvd codecs will most likely allow you to watch; most users say clearly the best functionality and a/v quality and imo well worth the reasonable outlay
