Hi,
My AC adapter has become too lose for my t42 to a point where when it's plugged into laptop if either one moves, it literally just falls out. It used to get "plugged in", and when I pulled it out there would be resistance, but now it just falls out. Has anyone had this problem before? I got my thinkpad in october

I had this problem. Without the plug in, see if you can nudge the receptacle around. You shouldn't be able to. This, and looseness to the point where I would nudge my computer and the thing would beep (power loss) happened at the same time. I sent it it, and they fixed it, but within a couple of weeks it was wobbling again. I assume it will get worse and worse, and I'll have to send it in again.
Anyway, it's not normal, no, and you should get it fixed, sooner or later.

The truth is that compared to the ThinkPad A20p, the DC plug is loose. Moreover, the male plug does not go all the way in (Black isolation in male plug does to reach the yellow ring).
I noticed this since I bought the T42 many months ago, however, in all this time, and moving the laptop back and forward across the desptop, chairs, boxes, whatever... while pluged, it never has got disconnected.

Wow, you'd think that after 8 or 9 years, IBM would have fixed this problem which started out on the I series, but nope, it appears they just passed the problem on to their high end ThinkPads. If all of the plastics are intact, you should be able to fix the problem with a good soldering gun. If there are some broken plastics, you can usually buy the part that broke at RadioShack and then replace the proken conector on the motherboard yourself.
