Overclock the T43?
Overclock the T43?
I guess it's more of an obsessive-compulsive thing than me seeking more speed.
Anyway, I have a T43 w/ the Pentium M 760. It's listed as "2.0 GHz".
Well, kinda. With the 133 MHz BUS and 15x multiplier, that translates to 1995 MHz.
I was just wondering if it was possible to kick that up to 134 MHz BUS (2010 MHz CPU). You know, just to make it a "full" 2 GHz.
I've seen tools like "SetFSB", but it doesn't seem to support the chipset in the T43.

Re: Overclock the T43?
I don't think its possible, for setFSB to work, one needs to find a PLL clock generator of your specific MB, and no body seem to have found it AFAIK.
Though to be honest you won't be able to notice much difference anyway with 5 mhz...
Another option is to get a Dothan PM chip with 400 mhz FSB, and take it up to 533 with hardware mod.

Re: Overclock the T43?
Or you can put in a PM 770/780 which are 2.13/2.26 Ghz respectively...

Re: Overclock the T43?
It's a rounding error. The fsb is 133.33333333...
Just let it be.

NO! You people are all short-sighted luddites! If one can mentally will 5mhz into existence, make it so!
I believe this is the 3rd step to transcendence according to the lost (now found!) Salton Sea Scrolls. There is no spoon!
PS. Don't forget, 5mhz was HUGE back in the day.

I was actually checking eBay for those.ajkula66 wrote:Or you can put in a PM 770/780 which are 2.13/2.26 Ghz respectively...
Everyone I saw said Socket 478, and the T43 was 479 I thought.
I don't recall what the difference is.

Re: Overclock the T43?
Whatever you may think, Q1U in my sig has a PM 780, while the QRU has PM 770...so these ARE the correct CPUs...

Re: Overclock the T43?
Just look for "Pentium M 770", there is only one socket for the Pentium Ms, regardless of what typos the sellers are putting in. Entering the full name of the processor should help you avoid Pentium 4s.
Re: Overclock the T43?
Well, it's certainly something I will keep in mind.
It looks like I may be able to get a 770 for around $50. While that price seems fair, I don't think it's worth it at the moment to pay that much for a tiny bump in speed.
Maybe when it drops to $30 or less.

Re: Overclock the T43?
To be honest I'd say your 760 is spot on, the main reason I got rid of my T43p was CPU given too much heat, so the fan always ran
, not to mention the GPU was like an oven
; and the HDD problem at boot up really rubbed it in.
There is little difference really Between 760 and 770, When I installed windows 7 with T43p, PM 770 given 3.9 rating; it eventually dropped down to 3.8.
not that means much, but you would be giving up quiet and coolness for marginal gain.
If you owned something other than T43, I would recommended Samsung's HM160HC as a upgrade, for that would give much more gain in general performance(WEI Disk transfer:>5.3), also reducing power usage while at it (single platter). However, I get the impression your an perfectionist, then the error at boot up might be a problem.
