Is this battery still good?

#1 Post by animefans » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:37 am

Here are the relevant statistic

Full Charge Capacity: 39.00 Wh
Cycle count: 99
Manufacture name: SANYO
Manufacture date: 2005-07-13
First Use Date: 2005-08
Design Capacity: 51.84 Wh

And what is the appropriate battery part number for a T43 15 inch?

Thanks!

Hey, if it still holds 39Wh (75% capacity) after more than three years - that's not good, that's EXCELLENT. Most of these batteries (especially Sanyo) tend to start losing capacity like crazy after 1.5-2 years. My battery in the T42, which is only a few months older than yours, now only holds ~20Wh, and has been in this state for about a year now.

Oh my god...

The only reason I asked is that on a fully charged battery, the T43 will last maybe 1.5 hour max. If I start to use it, the remaining time just drop like flies...

With your 20Wh, do you actually run on battery at all, or you are mostly plugged into the wall?

I wonder how long can a T43 run on a brand new battery, one where full charge and design capacity are the same...

I mostly run plugged (actually this laptop is now used by my sister, very lightly). When needed, it can still last for about an hour on battery. I suspect that really it holds more than 20Wh, more like 24-25Wh, but the battery gauge is also screwed - it refuses to go past 20, no matter how I calibrate it. Once it gets to 0%, it stays there for up to 15-20 minutes...

With my t41, I have the original battery, with almost 200 cycles, and it holds 17wh, and if I try (wireless off, screen as dim as possible) I can get 2.5 hours out of it. With wireless, it drops to about 2 hours and the screen kills it quicker if you biring up the brightness. (max performance - 1.5 hours).

With the 15 inch, it may last a bit less, but that is still good battery.
