Can't turn off Wireless on T43, wireless fails after Standby
Can't turn off Wireless on T43, wireless fails after Standby
Fresh install of Windows Vista
Most current, up-to-date drivers and software (as of February 18th, 2009)
Latest BIOS installed as well.
When I push Fn + F5, it will toggle Bluetooth Off and On only.
If I use that Access Connections screen, hitting the On/Off button just pauses for a little bit, and does nothing.
It always says the "802.11 Wireless Radio" is Off. The LED for WiFi always blinks, and the network works fine through it.
I didn't worry too much at first, because I usually don't feel the need to turn off WiFi.
However, when the system resumes from Standby, the WiFi connection doesn't work. The LED still blinks, but Windows says it isn't connected to any network.
In THAT situation, I would think hitting the WiFi button to turn it off and on again would clear it up, but of course the WiFi button doesn't control WiFi.
I have to REBOOT when it comes back from Standby since WiFi stops working and I have no way to control it.
Any ideas?

I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 on the system.
Even without installing ANY IBM/Lenovo software, Fn+F5 still toggles just Bluetooth.

Windows7 is still in beta. None of the TP drivers and utilities are officially supported on Windows7b.
When you were running Vista, did you run System Update?

Re: Can't turn off Wireless on T43, wireless fails after Standby
I understand Windows 7 is still in beta. However, *all* drivers and software I've used under Windows Vista work fine under Windows 7. There are even Windows 7 compatible versions of software and drivers posted for ThinkPads.sjthinkpader wrote:Windows7 is still in beta. It did the same thing after a clean install of Windows Vista. Though. Vista isn't "beta". A clean install resulted in the Fn+F5 button ONLY turning Bluetooth On and Off.
I did install System Update, and installed and and ALL Critical / Recommended / Optional updates, and then even installed the full install of Intel's Wireless software. I don't seem to have any software control over the wireless.

Re: Can't turn off Wireless on T43, wireless fails after Standby
I followed the guide from this thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=60118
Uninstalled Intel WiFi Drivers&App (from Add/Remove)
Uninstalled HotKey Utility (from the HotKey installer app)
Rebooted
Removed HotKey folders
Reinstalled HotKey Utility
Reinstalled Intel WiFi Drivers & App (latest Vista version from Lenovo's site)
Rebooted
However, things didn't work there. FnF5 still just controlled Bluetooth.
I then installed Access Connections (latest Vista version), rebooted, and now it can turn WiFi off/on.
I'm glad it's working NOW, but I'm a little upset that it doesn't work out of the box, and that there are *several* threads about it not working.

Re: Can't turn off Wireless on T43, wireless fails after Standby
I have the same annoyance, although with Windows XP SP3.
My ThinkPad t43, Intel 2915ABG, AccessConnections 5.21, Intel Driver 9.0.4.34
I tried the above, with little success, i.e. with previous AC Fn+F5 worked, BUT after I installed AC 5.21 it still does not work
(((
BUT my real problem is, that after standby or disconnecting WiFi, it does not connect again (it displays "waiting for authentication" and fails after that). I use WPA-PSK, the key is 1000% ok - it worked for 2 past years without any problem and got reconnected within seconds... And now, after some stupid System Update, my WiFi is almost not operational - I have to reboot to get reconnected.
Help, please, please, please

Re: Can't turn off Wireless on T43, wireless fails after Standby
ok, some furhter info - FnF5 works OK after downgrade of AccessConnections to 5.12
Windows XP WiFi management works OK - it reconnects fast and reliable
Intel tool shows following information in the log:
