T41 scrambled video

#1 Post by mmthomas » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:51 pm

T41 with ATI 9000 chip on motherboard has scrambled video showing on screen and VGA port.

This is a ebay purchase.

I exchanged the screen for another, but the effect is the same.

The laptop boots but shows no intelligble video on the screen. Lights flash, HDD light flickers for the appropriate amount of time until I should see something.

Best way to describe the screen images are like test patterns; repeatable blocks of multicolor and black.

Just out of the blue I suspect a bad BIOS load. Any thoughts on that? I changed the CPU, but no change of effect.

Anyone been successful in reloading BIOS from a floppy when you can't see the screen?

Other ideas?

Your GPU has gone south. See stickies at the top of this (T4x) forum.

Good luck.
