Does inter 2100 3b suppoert wpa-psk? T41

#1 Post by radiator » Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:55 am

Hi
I have some issue with my dlink di 524. My previosu laptop acer had no problem with getting connection to my router whereas my T41 with intel wireless card 2100 3b behaves worse than acer's card. I got connected to dlink severals times having wpa-psk set up. But I encountered disconnecting issues. But it worked. Does it mean my wifi support wpa-psk? But when I switched to wep 128bit i can get connected from any place in my home without any problems. now I'm a bit puzzeled because I don't wanna have wep encription as it is not very safe but wpa-psk fails to work far too many times. It anoyes me. I got sp3 installed and newest drivers from lenovo site. Also newest software for my dlink.
My final question is does my wifi fully support wpa-pskand If you have any suggestions for my plz fill me in.
thx

yes it does, that is what I use, but there are a new chipset and wireless drivers on the intel website, and I have found that they provide better performance and the scale for the wireless signal is more accurate than the IBM/Lenovo ones, so I would reccomend upgrading. I would also check the chanel, since mine connects best at about channel 6, and it disconnects the further away you get to the outside of the range.

I tried to force my wifi to work with wpa-psk and changed channel after checking (with the help of netstumbler) which could be used. It did not help. I wonder which soft should I install
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_ ... bmit=Go%21
for the time being I got 1.2.5 driver installed but some friends advice me to instal that generic software and driver. What do you suggest. In addition when I'am using wep there is no problem with connectivity no interruptions issuses nothing of that kind. When it comes to wpa-psk disconneting issues arise.
Any more help needed.

Number 3 on that list is what you want, but it looks like you already have it. I would reccomend trying the generic chipset software, http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_ ... mit=Go%21 I think it is number 12 on that list, but my t41 is currently being fixed from the GPU issue, so I can't check. I have used this and even though it disconnects occasionally, it is a lot more stable than the IBM drivers, and it could be my router (20$ 2 years ago), since my dad's t61 has the same problem. It also has higher transfer rates (still 11b), but noticibly faster. I would try that, and if it does not work, you can uninstall it and try something else.

My Grandparents have identical dlink routers, and with one, I stay connected for days on end, and with the other, sometimes I stay connected for days, sometimes it only stays connected for 30 seconds and disconnects, so I would play around with it, try changing channels (I am at 5, and last time my T41 was working, it was stable), and see if you are on the same channel as any other networks in the area.
