T43 2010 HD Problem

#1 Post by CRAZYBUBBA » Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:38 pm

I want to know what the computer looks/sounds like with this problem since I may choose to buy a non-compatible drive soon.

I was thinking along the same lines until I discovered LAN HDDs. I stilll need to find out more but let's say I buy a 1TB HDD and attach it to my router then 'er indoors and I can both use it as extra space and avoid having to buy new internal HDDs. I don't know how this equates but in the UK one can find 1TB LAN HDDs for under £100 (USD 150). Most electronics are cheaper in the US but it is a different voltage from Europe ... so they are as much use as a chocolate teapot, if you catch my drift.
Anyway, that's my tuppence worth after hearing HarryC's reply from Lenovo.

Good luck though, CRAZYBUBBA. :)

With the latest BIOS there is white text on a black background for about 5 seconds.

Now that we have the final answer from HarryC's petition, it would be good to hear from anyone who has upgraded to a non supported HD on the T43; to see if anyone has had issues with data loss, or anything along those lines. I have a T43 and thinking about another, but the drive upgrade path is very limited now and more so in the future.

Any experiences anyone wants to share as far as problems (other than seeing the 2010 error message).

Thanks,
Mike

I own a Seagate 80/7200 drive that I've been moving around my personal T43/p units for about a year now, without any issues apart from the "2010 error". Since the drive itself is pretty fast, I don't mind the extra couple of seconds on boot...

I've also installed a number of Fujitsu 120GB drives that do not trigger the error and all of them are working with no issues as of now, but it seems that they've been dropped out of production as well...

My experiences only.

Hi Mike,

I don't think except the tiny error massage there won't be other issues. I ran a year ago a non supported drive and got no problems with it. There isn't be security at 100 % against data loss, but this apply to a breakdown of the drive, too. If there were any major problems with non supported drives, you would read this in a lot of posts here. :D
