I sync my phone via IR using the Nokia PC Suite, that's the only use I personally have for it, although some people still use it to send data between two laptops.halfcard wrote:hi, what are the best or most common uses for these 2 systems?

I use IR to work with my cell phone too. If your phone has BT then you can use BT instead of IR. People use them with mobile devices such as PDA and phones. Other uses for BT are mice, keyboards, and headphones. For IR, you can print using IR if the printer has an IR port. But you have to aim the IR port on your laptop to the IR port on the printer so it's not very practical.
I've heard a person who uses his BT phone as a remote control to control Windows Media Player on his PC.

Yeah like so pointless that I can run my BT mouse and share a printer (BT) with other colleagues...oh yes, and my youngest daughter can do something REALLY pointless - she can up/download her pointless photos from her mobile phone. (Now there I actually have to agree - that really is pointless!)Steve007 wrote:Bluetooth is like a broken pencil - pointless!

I personally love Bluetooth... I have it on 2 cellphones, palm pilot and laptop.
I usually use it to transfer pictures/midi to my cellular with my laptop (and vice versa). I also use it when i'm not in a WiFi spot to connect my laptop to the GPRS/EDGE network. I also sync my palm pilot with bluetooth.
I plan to purchase a BT keyboard/mouse and a BT printer adapter soon too.
I think the Nintendo DS also support BT for multiplayer? (or is it Wifi). BT is also used for cell phone headset.
In other words, i'm a BT fan!

I have an infrared transceiver connected to a printer. Either my wife with her laptop or I with mine can plop our unit down and print without connecting cables.
