T43 thinkpad dvd/cd-rw drive issue

Hi all

I'm new here and not the brightest with computers so need some help please

I have a T43 thinkpad type 2668 and for a while now the drive itself just keeps randomly opening. It can happen either when in use or when the laptop is idle and is beginning to drive me mad !

Also it doesn't burn cd's but I think it is supposed to ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am now on my fourth CDRW/DVD drive for my T43. See my post at

I am fortunately under warranty, and have had now 3 replacements. I just received the latest one a couple of days ago and hope it's a good done. My suggestion would be to find another drive on ebay or on this forum. It's likely a hardware problem and not likely to be fixable. The only thing I know of to try is to remove and reseat the drive. If that doesn't help, try another drive. It's not likely a software problem.
