How to control T43 GPU ?

#1 Post by ssd_thinkpad » Sat Feb 28, 2009 4:40 pm

I'd like to control a T43 GPU to make it cooler. Is there a way to downclock or undervolt it? I'd like to use also a program to control fan like tpfancontrol. Is there a combination of gpu-program and fan-program that works together?

The ThinkVantage Power Manager doesn't monitor GPU temperature but monitors CPU temperature. Just set it to Adaptive instead of Performance.

I want to manipulate Thinkpads GPU (undervolting / underclocking). Do you know a program that does that?

ATI Tool should be able to underclock.

ATI Tray Tools should be also able to underclock your gpu. It also offers some more features that you might find useful (it might be even able to "undervolt" the gpu, not sure about it though).

NHC, though not directly related to your questions, is also an utility worth a look.

BTW, I believe, in general it is not possible to "undervolt" a gpu but just to "shut down specific circuits"...

Hope this helps

Thanks! ATI tools are compatible with tpfancontrol, right?

I'd like to underclock / undervolt T43 as much as I can so that it can run mostly without using its fan.

ATI tool will allow you to set clock for the GPU core and memory, it should not conflict in any way with fan control as it's not controlling any fan.
