Merge t42p parts with t41?

#1 Post by pele » Tue Mar 03, 2009 1:44 pm

Hi Everyone -

I have a fantastic t42p (2372-GUU) whose motherboard was replaced twice (both times under warranty) but died again 91 days out of warranty - (fyi - ibm extends the warranty 90 days after the last repair).

The components on the t42p are great, so......I was wondering if/what I can transplant to my fully operational t41 (2374-3HU)?

I swapped the ram (2GB), the hard drive (52 GB 7,200 rpm) and the dvd/cd rw from the t42p to the t42 which all worked fine.

Would it be worth moving the cpu, fan, video card, lcd and wifi over to the t41 motherboard - and will they work?

I've also looked into getting a new motherboard for the t42p but its seems almost cost prohibitive $200 +/- considering I could get a new machine (with warranty) for a bit more.

I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts-

Thanks

Yes, they'll swap over. Except the video card, it's stuck to the motherboard and is probably what went bad in the first place.
