New T43 - two questions
New T43 - two questions
Friends,
My recent saga was solved by purchasing a MINT T43 (2668) locally, and sending my ailing T42 to Superior Reball for repair. I have two questions:
1. The fan on the left side of T43 seems to run MUCH more often and MUCH hotter than my T42. Is this normal?
2. If the T42 is repaired, I am wanting to upgrade it's 60GB 7200RPM harddrive to a bigger drive. Will the stock 60GB 7200RPM drive work in T43? My new T43 came with a 40GB 5400RPM drive ...
Thanks!

Re: New T43 - two questions
1.) Yes, you can use a fan control program if it bothers you.
2.) The drives are physically interchangeable.

Doesn't bother me if it is normal - just making sure!Harryc wrote:1.) Yes, you can use a fan control program if it bothers you.
Awesome - thanks!!!Harryc wrote:2.) The drives are physically interchangeable.
Re: New T43 - two questions
And while we're at it (and I did some searching, but didn't see any recent threads on this), what is the best replacement Hard Drive for my T42? I have the 7200RPM drive in there currently - and want to keep using that. Here are the Newegg.com options, but is one more recommended than another?
Thanks!
Greg
Thanks!
Greg

Re: New T43 - two questions
Your "options" are mostly SATA drives that won't work in a T42...

Re: New T43 - two questions
Thank you. So, my T42 is a PATA and my T43 is SATA. Why would my PATA drive from T42 work in my T43 then (as stated above)? Also the drive you recommend is 5400RPM, will my performance decrease from the stock Hitachi 7200RPM?
Please forgive my ignorance, while I can find the data on this forum by using search, it's the application I struggle with.

Re: New T43 - two questions
For example, would this 7200RPM SATA work in my T42?
Re: New T43 - two questions
I thought the T42 and T43 both took PATA drives (but the T43 has a SATA controller).

Re: New T43 - two questions
They ARE both PATA driven machines. No SATA drive will work in the main bay on either of them.
And to OP: you won't feel that much of a difference going to a nice, modern 5400rpm drive

Re: New T43 - two questions
As noted, it is very normal. It bothers some people more than others, especially those that "upgraded" from a T40/T41/T42, since those were so quiet.GregAZ wrote:1. The fan on the left side of T43 seems to run MUCH more often and MUCH hotter than my T42. Is this normal?
In addition to the software control program, which works very well, I have found that replacing the original thermal grease with Arctic Silver helps a little.
(You can search for Arctic Silver on the forum to find out much more.)

Congratulations with your MINT T43... seems that you're having the same love-affair with T4x's as I am...
1) As to the "noisy" T43, well - this is actually a "feature" of those models, but there is a way to improve that; please see the thread T43 Hard drive in the dvd bay and more precisely this post and the links therein. An absolutely recommended, free "cure" that you'll no doubt be very satisfied with.
2) Yes, I am certain that the 60 GB/7200 from HDD from your T42 will work in the T43 as well (provided it was originally delivered by IBM). The T43's will only accept certain PATA HDD's... explanation given if following the link about the "2010 error" in the above-mentioned thread - or by Searching this forum for "2010".

On a T43/p, how much is "a little?" 5C? 10C?underclocker wrote:In addition to the software control program, which works very well, I have found that replacing the original thermal grease with Arctic Silver helps a little.
What about about a T60/p?
