Question on video for T43p from ebay

#1 Post by mpcook » Wed Mar 04, 2009 1:05 pm

I just purchased a T43p on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0317609632 You can see by the description that it was sold as a T43p with 128MB ATI FireGL T2; 15.1" SXGA+ (1400 x1050) TFT display. However, it is a 2687-D5U after checking around, I took a shot at it, thinking it may have a better video capability than that. In fact, Device Manager says FireGL V3200 256MB with up to 2048 x 1536 pixels, and the Lenovo site says display should be UXGA IPS TFT FlexView. Given that, did I luck out and end up with a UXGA IPS TFT FlexView?? I have only had it for an hour and I love it! It does have a few imperfections on the screen but ordinarily not noticeable. And it's missing the pesky hard drive screw.

If that is indeed a 2687-D5U, then you did luck out with a 15" UXGA Flexview at 1600x1200.

Product: ThinkPad T43p 2687-D5U [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: P M 760(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1600x1200 LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL V3200 CDRW/DVDRW, IBM 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

The larger display 2048x1536 is only on an external monitor, NOT internal.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Yes that is what it appears to be. And yes that makes sense the 2048x1536 is only on an external monitor. It does show as 256MB when I go to Device Manager - were there two versions?

No. V3200 GPU "borrows" another 128MB from the main RAM, thus showing 256MB in Windows.

You've lucked out. Out of all T43p machines that I've owned, the coolest and quietest one was 2687-D5U that is now owned by a fellow forum member in Europe...great laptops.

Enjoy!
