Did my fan just die? (T43 1872)

#1 Post by i-SnipeZ » Thu Mar 05, 2009 1:00 am

I use my Thinkpad casually but I was playing Fable the other day and it was running kind of hot, the fan kept revving, after an hour or so the fan got incredibly loud and then just stopped. Ive restarted and the fan comes on but now its completely silent. I can hear it in there, but it seems to be too quiet, even if I can feel the air coming out of the vents.

Also on an unrelated note how would you guys rate the Lenovo IdeaPad Y730 for decent gaming, you know, just Crysis on medium low and stuff like that?

Hi, the fan noise is directly related with the heat of the CPU/GPU. The system revs it up under high load. This is why when gaming it should be noisier. This does not explain the stop, nor too much noise, but if it works now and is more silent and you are not stressing the CPU and the GPU it may be perfectly normal. I suggest you check the fan speed and that it revs up when you stress the system, either with FANCONTROL or NHC+appropriate ACPI module (you can find links/nstructions for both easily in this forum).
