operating system not found - help!

I started my T43 today but all I get is "operating system not found" at boot up. It is running on WIN XP

I tried to CHKDSK and I receive the message: "one or more unrecoverable problems"

I tested the hard drive using the hitachi boot disk but I found no problems.

I entered IBM recovery partition but I cannot repair the system.

Can you tell me how to repair this system - thanks

I agree. IBM has a boot-sector (MBR) recovery tool which may help:

Another thought; I've read the Recovery Diskette / CD can fix MBR, which I think can be made if you have IBM tools installed. I don't use these tools, never have, they're not installed on any TP's I own but you may want to look into this option as well.

Lastly, if it were my lappie I'd pull the drive and back it up completely before doing anything else! Have used the MBR repair diskette many times with no problems ... but you never know, so back-up and be safe if there's ANYTHING important on the drive you need.
