Extremely dim display AND charging problems

#1 Post by raueda1 » Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:38 pm

I'm now thinking I have interrelated problems so I'll post them together. Unit is a 14" T42 Mobo with Radeon 9000/64mb. It runs fine off the external monitor jack. Here are the issues

1. The display is extremely dim, backlight isn't lighting. I've tried 2 displays known to be good, same result.

2. Battery doesn't charge. Battery info software indicated voltage is OK, but no charging current. Unit does run off the battery OK.

Attempted troubleshooting: All fuses tested and seem OK. I measured voltages on the usual LCD fuses and they're OK too. I tested voltages on the ADP3806 per postings by AdaSch and they seem OK.

!!@#$%!&!*!&!**&@!!@! WHAT TO LOOK AT NEXT? I really want to get this machine going with SXGA display. My experience level is "advanced hobbyist," (old ham radio guy). I'm not an EE but have some basic test equipment and lots of soldering expereince, though not on SMD's. Any more help would be greatly appreciated. Thx!!
