t42- spilled water on keyboard

#1 Post by lynnja » Mon Mar 16, 2009 4:55 pm

I spilled a bottle of water directly on my T42 keyboard. Is it worth
trying to have fixed or should I just buy another??

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the fact that I pulled my laptop forward to get the water off and immediately wiped the keyboard was okay. I hope I didn't fry it, cus I love my T42! lol.

Be thankful it was just water! Wish you and your T42 all the best!

Thanks.

Unfortunately after I opened it up and dried up a little bit of moisture, I reinstalled the battery and plugged it in and I got nothing. So, is there anything I can try to test or replace? My fear is I fried it because I picked it up and turned it towards me to get the water off. By doing so, I may have forced the water to the motherboard. Ugh. I cant believe I did this.

Leave it a few more days.

My sister covered hers in tea, and it wouldn't boot after 2 days of (dismantled) drying, but happily booted after another 2 days.

I believe this is also a question of how much water it actually was? I've been inspecting a drain hole in my T43p recently, as I believe it is the same as in the T42, and it's really small and can contain IMHO quite a small amount of water in the keyboard from which it flows through the drain hole to the bottom of the laptop, I believe they have it better handled in the T6x series, but I'm afraid that if it was a more than a small amount, It definitely went also on the mainboard.

It was a good part of an 8-10 oz spill onto the keyboard. I know, I looked at my drainholes too and thought oh, no...this is gonna be fried.

but I took the advice I was given and took it apart, let it dry out and I still cannot believe I am typing on my T42....it turned on today!!!!!!. Even after I did ALL the wrong things--picked it up with the water on it, shook it, kept trying to turn it on....what a great machine.

thanks everyone for all the help!
