after fresh install
after fresh install
Hi there!
I have an IMB T40. I just reinstall everything from recovery CD's. After installation I have some folders on my C drive:
IBMTOOLS=933MB
I386=481MB
Do I really need them?
Can I delete them?
and my WINDOWS folder has 4GB!!!
Can I trim something?
thanks a lot

Re: after fresh install
You can delete both, but I'd recommend backing them both up on removeable media. The i386 directory is a copy of windows that programs use for a windows file/driver source while installing...very handy. If you delete it you will have to drag out your XP install CD everytime you install something. The IBMtools folder contains a copy of all of the IBM/Lenovo drivers and programs that you (or system update) installed on your machine. Again, very handy if you have to fall back to an earlier driver as an example.
Re: after fresh install
I agree with Harryc, these are quite valuable and if you are keen on removing them from your ThinkPad at least keep them as backups on removable media, as when you least expect it you may wish you had them...Harryc wrote:You can delete both, but I'd recommend backing them both up on removeable media.
Cheers...

Re: after fresh install
You are getting good advice from Harry and Archer. These folders are so small in comparison to a modern hardrive that it is simply not worth the aggravation to delete. And if you think a 4Gb Windows folder is large, wait until you get to Vista (26Gb). ... JDH
