Blue Ray for IBM ThinkPad T41 or R40
Can I get a Blue Ray Drive for my IBM ThinkPad T41 and R40? I did some Blue Ray look up and can play basic DVDs and I figure I should upgrade to Blue Ray soon since they will be replacing DVDs with HD DVD or Blue Ray.

HD-DVD is dead, its no longer in service. Also as of now Blu Rays only have a13% market share over basic DVD's. I doubt they make Blu-Ray drives for anything older than the newer T400's.

You can get an external USB Blu-Ray drive/burner (there is no "e" in Blu-Ray). However, you may want to check first whether your CPU/GPU is powerful enough to handle Blu-Ray playback (I personally doubt it). Software makers (like cyberlink) provide free tools to test your system.

Re: Blue Ray for IBM ThinkPad T41 or R40
Isn't a Blu-Ray Drive the same as if I would go out and buy a basic CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM or CD/RW/DVD-ROM combo Drive for my Desktop and just put it in and let Windows install it or install it by the Driver CD that came with the Drive?
And I don't know does the new T400-500, R400-500 use the same thic type Drive as the R40-50 Series? My T41 Drive bay is thinner than my R40's Drive bay, probly the same as my old T20 I had. and my T41 I think is thinner than the new T400-500, R400-500 Drive bay by what the pics i seen of them on the internet.
My specs for my T41 is, 2GB RAM, Intel Centrino 1.50GHz, CD/RW/DVD-ROM Drive, ATi Radeon 7500, 14.1" Display
My specs for my R40 is, 2GB RAM, Intel Centrino 1.30GHz, CD/RW/DVD-ROM Drive, ATi Radeon 7500, 14.1" Display
only diffrence is R40 is thic and thic Drive bay than my T41

Its an entirely different set up. What you are suggesting is that putting a DVD in a CD drive w/ updated firmware would allow it to read the DVD. Not the case, the layers are much more dense, use a thinner strip of metal, refract the laser differently, and the contents i believe are on a different part of the disk. It has to do with the laser/disk setup. Not the firmware. To give you an idea of the space differences regarding layers and density:
CD: Dual Layer- 765mb max
DVD: Dual Layer- 8.4gb max
HD-DVD: Dual Layer- 25-35gb max
Blu-Ray: Single Layer- 25gb
Dual Layer- 54gb
blu rays have been built up to 4 layers as of now. The data on a blu ray is so much more dense than even an HD-DVD. Its impossible for the lasers in DVD/HD-DVD drives to read the data. I believe the T400/500 series notebooks may use the same as a T60 or T61. But face it man, the 4x series notebooks are too old. Not to mention that even with max ram and the best video card and screen, you probably would have slow choppy playback anyway. Also since its a minimum 720p, you better hope youve got that sxga(+) screen on there or no full screen for you.
