New T 42 - Help Please

#1 Post by jorget » Thu Jan 27, 2005 7:05 pm

I have a new T42 model 2378R4U. This model has the 14" XGA LCD.

Here's the problem:

Some text letters look faded or just lighter, especially with the Times New Roman font size 12 or higher. This happens on both the Thinkpad LCD and the external monitor (NEC Multisync LCD 1530v). It's visible on web pages and also on Microsoft Word and Excel, and it's always the same letters that look lighter (washed-out). The print out is fine.

I called IBM tech support, but they've never heard of this and just had me change a few display settings, but it did not help. They suggested that I send it in for repair, but it's a new machine and I' still within the 30 day return period, so I'm trying to decide if it's something I can live with or just send it back and buy another brand. The T42 is replacing my older Gateway Solo 2500, which has been a very good notebook.

Anyway, I'm almost ready to return it, but would prefer to fix it if anyone has a solution to this.

Has anyone had a similar experience with their Thinkpad??
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you,
Jorge

It sounds like what I see when I enable ClearType... Try changing the settings for that.

Thanks Mac_G !

I solved the problem by disabling the "smooth edges" effect or using ClearType.

Thanks again,
Jorge
