Received my 2379DXU today! I could have had it yesterday, but I wasn't home when UPS showed up. :(

Much better than the
Estimated Ship Date: 08/09/2004
showing in the confirmation email I received after ordering it! :D

So far I don't see any dead pixels either! :D :D

What the heck is the food and drug administration doing with our thinkpads?

"FOOD/DRUG ADMINISTRATION HOLD;BROKERAGE RELEASED. WAITING FOR CLR AGY"

brokerage released? clearance agency?

That shipment came from Asia; you do the math.

ah, i'm very excited, because my dxu shipped today! at 10 pm on the thirteenth, i got an e-mail from ibm that told me it had been shipped.

although i ordered it using two day shipping, i know that it will take longer, because it has to go through customs.

my question is -- how much longer? when can i expect my thinkpad? :)

It took both of my units aprox three days to get through customs/FDA.

I got the same message. Mine came from HK to Louisville and then rerouted back to Louisville for some reason. I have no idea what UPS is doing and why they shipped it to Louisville twice when I'm on the west coast. If anything, Louisville seems a really strange place as a port of entry for materials being shipped from Asia.

Hmmmmm If I put in an order for a 2379DXU Express model with no additions or changes do you think I would get it by the middle of july? The thing is, I'm working overseas but I'll be in washington dc for the last 2 weeks in july (15-30th I think) and I'm hoping to be able to order the thinkpad within the next 2 weeks and pick it up while I'm there.

So the question is, can I wait a bit, or is there a backorder on these things and I should order it asap? :?

Thanks!

mine's on the delivery truck destined for my house today, 12 or so days after i ordered it, and that was at the peak of the backorder stuff. only took IBM 7 days to give it to UPS. you should have it in time.

i used standard (free) shipping, and they overnighted it from customs to my house. (it left customs at 12amish I think, got to UPS, they flew it out at 5:03am, and it got in st. louis at 5:16am)
...you'd think UPS would choose a timezone and stick on it, at least for the tracking page...

so i think you'll be fine. to get a better opinion though, call IBM's 800 number and talk to a sales rep and get his opinion, then call back to get a second opinion.

i'd suggest placing your order asap though, you can always cancel it (and i'm not even sure if IBM places the charge until after it ships), and the higher up you are on the order queue the better come backup time.

I had ordered a custom system June 1 with an estimated delivery date of July 8th. I called IBM yesterday, and they said that none of the custom laptops had been shipped yet, however, he could change my order to the 2379DXU and have it shipped today!

I changed my order and requested two day shipping, and got the tracking number the same day :) Shipping was only $25, the salesman couldn't belive it. But, when I checked UPS, it's says it's coming from Conneticuit, then heading to Tampa, and then to Atlanta. Go figure.

Just got my 2378DXU today! It was stuck with the FDA for 2 days in KY, somehow it got from KY to NY in 8 hours, and was personally delivered by a UPS agent in a black sedan this morning  I ordered on June 3rd, so that makes it 13 days. Will post my experiences later, but so far it is better than I imagined

cmlegh, I think both of our laptops are in the same shipment. I don't know why Ontario is so back-logged but it does seem ridiculous that it's taken a week to clear customs.

Might thoughts exactly. Mine showed up at 9am this morning and it's wonderful. So much nicer than my 3yr old Inspiron 8000, so much faster. No dead pixels and I love the flexview.
