T20 with new XP Pro install booting into Administrator?

I have a used T20 that seems in pretty fair shape. I did an upgrade from Win 2000 Pro to XP Pro. Otherwise it's stock.

I created a new account with administrative privileges.

At this point, with just an account called Administrator, and an account called User, both with administrative privileges, it is supposed to boot into User and the acct called Administrator is not supposed to show up at all, right?

So, what gives?


Or, could it be someone made an account on the prior OS called Administrator? There is actually a folder under C:\Documents and Settings\ called "Administrator." On my other machine usually there's just "All Users," and "Default User," and whatever account I create ("User" in this case).

Any help with this, please?

If you have Powertoys installed, it could be that the previous user set the Administrator account to automatically logon. There is also a registry entry that indicates if you want a particular account to logon. Also, just change the passwords to both accounts by right-clicking My Computer|Manage|Local Users and Groups|Users and then right-clicking on the Administrator and User accounts and selecting "Set Password" (make sure you change the passwords to something different from what they already are). This will then stop the autologon because the new password will be different from the saved password in the registry.

The easiest way around all this is to install Powertoys and run the TweakUI applet. Under the logon option is autologon. You can specify which account you want to autologon or disable it.
