T43 Fresh XP Installation - Wireless problems
T43 Fresh XP Installation - Wireless problems
Purchased a used T43 and did a fresh installation of Windows XP. I do not have the Thinkpad recovery disks.
I downloaded wireless driver from ibm's website but even after installation wireless icon does not show up in the Control Panel > Network Connection
What to do?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
Which wireless driver did you used, for intel or IBM card? When you look at the System device list, what is the device with the yellow question mark? What is the type and model numbers?

Try this one:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-52527
The other two could be power manager drivers or TPM driver.

Have you run System Information/Components/Network to see which card is registered?
Alternatively visit http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo and enter your model and serial number for a detailed list of the components used in that model.
Of course it may have been modified so you may have to look inside to see which card is fitted.
Did the wireless work before your fresh install?

Re: T43 Fresh XP Installation - Wireless problems
Thanks for the suggestion. I found the driver but now the laptop just hangs up at start up. I think either the xp that I downloaded from the internet had some bugs in it or there is some problem with the hard disk.obsession613 wrote:Have you run System Information/Components/Network to see which card is registered?

I found the thinkpad recovery disks online and will do a fresh install, only proper this time.
Re: T43 Fresh XP Installation - Wireless problems
Many XP installations "downloadable from internet" include some patches/fixes/modifications with extremely questionable nature (apart from any legal matters here)...
IBM Lenovo Z61p | 15.4'' WUXGA | Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 2x 2.16GHz | 4 GB Kingston HyperX | Hitachi 7K500 500 GB + WD 1TB (USB) | ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 | ThinkPad Atheros a/b/g | Analog Devices AD1981HD | Win 7 x86 + ArchLinux 2009.08 x64 (number crunching)
